I grew up hunting and fly fishing in Connecticut. As a youth, I spent lots of time in the woods with my grandpa, an avid outdoorsman and State Park constable. I followed my love of the outdoors and fishing; in 1995 I packed my bags for Alaska where I guided my rookie season in Katmai Nat’l Park. The following spring, opportunity and Montana found me. Since then, I have guided here in Southwestern Montana, putting down roots and establishing FishTales Outfitting. I live, fish and guide year round. I’m intimate with these waters and relish the opportunity get on the water with you.
Bob is a native Montanan and a life-time resident of Southwestern MT. Bob has been guiding in SW MT since 1988 and writes, “Caught my first fish on the Big Hole River, my father assisting on a late June day 1960; been in love with the Big Hole ever since.” Bob’s history as a commercial fly tier and extensive years of guiding experience on the rivers of SW MT ensure a memorable day. Bob openly shares his knowledge and love of fishing with those who come aboard his boat.
If you are looking for the guide that spends his days off work chasing trout all over the state, then this might be your guy. Chris Knott looks more like an NFL lineman than your usual guide suspects. But don’t be fooled by his appearance, this kid wants to get you into fish as much as when he is fishing himself. After a solid six years on the local rivers as a fishing guide Chris has learned quite a bit and will always be willing to give helpful tips so that your flyfishing techniques become more productive. Spend a day or two with him and you will see why he has become a valued member of the FIshTales Outfitting team.
